As the Morning Passed On By
I saw him from my window, late for work again Hurrying at a frantic pace despite the teeming rain, Along came the dog walker, his tiny dog not pleased Trudging through the puddles, some up to it's knees. There were passengers riding buses just happy to be dry Smug looks on their faces at the soaking passers by, I watched the neighbours children who think the rain's a hoot Charging around like hellions, in shiny welly boots. And so it poured all morning, ne'er a break was had Surely there was only ducks had reason to be glad, When it finally eased the world it seemed stood still Refreshed by the cleansing rain, but all had had their fill. On my fence a row of sparrows, bedraggled one and all Eyes half shut in protest at their drenching in the squall, Then came a gift, a rainbow graced the sky Life played out before me, as the morning passed on by.
