While Mother Nature Lies Abed
Seasons change when Mother Nature turns in her sleep A few months of Spring are all we're allowed to keep But in those months, flowers bloom and bees take flight The perfumed scent of jasmine drifts in the air at night The world is filled with color, and streams begin to flow It's time for rebirth; seedlings planted, and as they grow we enjoy the chatter of songbirds, feathering their nests The first will always be the well-dressed, Robin Red Breast Nature turns and we're swimming on a hot summer day Soaking up the sun on a well-deserved vacation get-away Enjoying picnics in the park and rides at the county fair It's the season of love's interludes and fireworks in the air When Summer's foliage turns crimson and begins to fall Mother has grown restless and brisk breezes come to call Forests are all ablaze as though leaves are flames of fire Temperatures cool when Autumn and Nature conspire Can you feel Fall's caress and the gentleness of its kiss? Welcome its whispered warnings or you will be remiss The billowing breezes it offers, beginning in September bring feast days of Thanksgiving; a holiday to remember Mother yawns and stretches, but she's not ready to rise She's hibernating like a bear, rubbing her sleepy eyes The saffron sun warms the earth, his light is embossed spreading a golden sheen on blankets of Winter's frost One by one, the seasons await their turn to flourish Nature's calendar tells her when to feed and nourish She's stirring, but hesitant to leave the comfort of bed While snow falls one last time, she will rest her head
