The Goblins and Me
The three goblins were here to stay I’m afraid They made work for us all and we don’t have a maid The prophecy came true, yes, this story was forbade. Told to me one warm day with a cold lemonade. They were mighty these three, messy and funny One of them went by the moniker of Sunny The other two were Ratty and Brat-Honey They were always broke, stealing our money They stole our dollars, our nickels, quarters too They took Gram’s secret stash right out of her shoe. What can we offer? What can we do? Asked the whole family – thinking I knew…. I pondered the goblins for a fortnight at least. They stole our livestock, every last beast. Where they squirreled them away none of us knew. When we tried to focus, they would disappear too! Come on Goblins, I said. I know you will listen to reason. Sunny began snickering ‘cause it was the fur season. I begged them all to come out for a little heart-warming chat. Coaxing them with little gloves and mittens, and a jazzy new hat. They sat in the teacups, and dunked their cookies in deep. They sat and they listened and made not a peep. We became friends, those goblins and I. We came to an agreement over gooseberry pie. I will make them costumes complete with feathered hats. They will return the livestock, and come to all my chats. We will respect each other and be friends forever more Now these little goblins I truly kind of adore….
