Not What I Expected
I was expecting wild red gypsy hair. She was older, balding, sprinkles of gray hair. I figured she would have an elaborate silk cloth, gypsy robes. She was dressed in a pink T-shirt, and blue jeans. Would she start with runes? Tarot? Palmistry? None of these props seemed to be available. May I take your hand? She asked. Her voice was gentle. No dancing, no tambourine, no crystal ball, nothing. Her touch was warm, soft. You have a kind heart, she said. This is exactly what I was thinking about her. You don’t need me, she told me. You could do this yourself. “All people are psychic,” I replied, and she nodded. I knew that I would never have to come back, but after the reading Nothing could keep me away. I had found a kindred spirit, And that is rare. I was not about to lose her. This was thirty-seven-years ago, and we are still great friends.
