The Excavation of Truth
Walking in the desert of some foreign land I saw an artifact jutting from the sand Then, suddenly, I felt time and space shift While studying the enigmatic petroglyph The relic guided me to a buried red stone Hidden in an orchard under a pile of bones It beckoned me to hold it up to the sky And carve 3 characters into a tree nearby With a touch of confusion, I did what it asked Up from the earth came a translucent mask I felt compelled to place it on my face My heart began to beat at a very rapid pace The mask was my new visage, I felt a connection I found still waters to gaze at my reflection My face looked the same, there was no mask at all It had broken down every barrier, facade, and wall I returned the red stone to its spot in the ground I thanked God Almighty for what I had found I learned if I dig deep and search long enough I'll find the truth like a diamond in the rough The truth I found was that a mask isn't needed That such an old, simple truth should be heeded Now I approach life honestly and free You can be who you want but I'll just be me
