Summer Rain
The parched ground And blistering heat Cicadas screeching for aqua The burning skies Blinding eyes Pastel colours And the hazy wait for reprieve Then a drop The spatter on the skin The second in the shoulder Third on the spin The fourth on the face, sixth, seventh and eighth Till there are too many to enumerate The rolling rumble in the distance Climbing to a thunderous roar Releasing into sheets of rain The smell of the earth's petrichor Quenching it's thirst In an effort to reimburse Hazy colours Wide eyed Cloudy skies Frogs feeling the aqua The water blistering the streams On the wet ground A flash of light Cloaking the sight In black and white Searing the memory into your eyes After a time, the steam is gone and the roar no more The rain falls only under the flickering streetlight And into the black night Then, there! under the yellow light The outside resplendent in the moonlight So, You say to yourself under the covers April showers bring May flowers.
