Father Figure
An agonizing decision's consequence Has left him second guessing Scattered pieces of his heart Are cause of two things missing Two precious littles came into his life When he began dating their mother They soon became his pride and joy And he loved them like no other Embracing every opportunity He fufilled that fundamental, paternal role Selflessly providing a loving foundation And helping to raise them as his own He encouraged them to grow and learn Through school days and teenage years He hopes the values he instilled Provide strength and courage to persevere Their relationships have changed direction Causing circumstances beyond control The fatherly bonds that were created Are not the same as they were before That perseverance he instilled Is now putting his own to the test Hopefully time matures them both And they'll see he did his very best So as this Father's Day comes and goes He'll console his restless heart And relinquish the parental role he held The one he welcomed from the start But regardless of the outcome There'll be an underlying lesson Every served role in life has purpose And every ending has it's blessing June 21, 2020
