His Daughter's Wedding Day
A daddy on his daughter's wedding day... to paraphrase the famous author, "it was the best of days, it was the worst of days" yes, my dear daughter, it was both of these. It was the most natural of acts imaginable: a father giving away his beloved daughter to his beloved son-in-law to become one in holy matrimony. It was a circle-of-life moment - first, your adoring mother bringing a baby girl into the world; now, celebrating the moment our fully grown daughter crosses the threshold into a loving marriage of her own. It was possibly the hardest thing this father has ever been called upon to do - not because you weren't ready... not because your young man wasn't worthy... simply because. It was the reminder that life is a one-way ticket. The very arrival of this long-anticipated day means the delightful journey you and he and your mother and I all took is forever behind us. No matter how much we may wish for it, there is simply no return flight to yesterday. But, do I believe in you and your husband and tomorrow and next month and the year after next? I do.
