Homesicklessness
A pilgrim far away from home A stranger who is all alone A homeless man without a friend A homesick heart no balm can mend With stoic gaze we pass them by While they breathe out a bitter sigh Soft you, before you go away Just spare a moment, O please stay We see but through a darkened glass And find a shadow we had cast All we are homeless in this world For once we had our birthright hurled And chose to live beneath the sky To claim this hollow earth to die A shaken leaf blown by the wind All that we laboured for rescind Until One came his home forsake That we with Him our dwelling make Our penury became His lot A home without such love is not And now as strangers we believe Our destiny no more will grieve I wonder why I go astray It happens when I do not pray And then my heart infected thus That I get ill with wanderlust This state I call homesicklessness For we are born sans blessedness It comes at times we groan for more Than that which He our sin did bore
