The Veil
The Veil Reaching out into the distance To capture the moment At the grasp of the hand But so far removed from the experience Come, join me on the front porch I want some coffee and bread That large mug over there is mine Throw out its contents and wash it for me It’s old and doesn’t taste good The bread is not yours It’s moldy Put it in a bag and throw it out for me Did you wash the mug for me? Yes, I say Thank you, my dear Is the pot covered correctly? Yes, I nod I want to sit on the porch a while longer With you A veil separates me from it Nini pushes herself up off her black recliner Her mind roams around the apartment Her neck turns with curiosity Bringing forth her alternate reality A sure distraction to pass her time She stops by the kitchen and looks around Like a child for the first time With a gentle hold of the hand She comes back to the present Stove, pots and pans ,dishes, utensils This is our kitchen I say Who’s that big o’l’ lady in the kitchen Is she cooking? It’s Andrew , I say Then he must be womanly , she says I laugh Marckincia Jean Narrative 05/14/20
