The Free Apology
This is a poem to myself or maybe just about myself An introduction of me to strangers or an apology to myself. “I am sorry,” either one of us should take these words You, a stranger whose hand I might have shook today You, the one who might have asked me to reach for the soap on the top shelf You, the one who might have liked my post online Or maybe you who might be too far away for me to meet, That apology could be for you, Or for me. I am sorry to myself, I have been a coward lately, keeping myself busy To avoid my own thoughts. “I’m sorry,” sometimes I say that without knowing why, I apologize way too much, I end up apologizing for things I’m proud of, like, “I’m sorry for this poem.” All because I am afraid, of what people might say, If I show a little pride.
