Bah I Say Not Meaning It
Tree huggers bah I say, not meaning it. Asking forgiveness from the oak I hug daily. But this is the Midwest Where people make fun of nature lovers Calling them fruits and nuts Give me fruits and nuts any day Let me run wild and free, bare naked, dancing in the grass with my beetles and fairies Let me delight in the violets and the knotholes. Take me to the squirrel’s nest and let me feed her baby My days are spent outside, in my verdant sanctuary Chanting my truth in ancient non-words given to me by spirit As the bluest of skies sends crisp white clouds to laugh at my mirth We laugh together, nature and I for joy is rampant out here I dance my truth, chanting at the top of my strength Marching past the lilac which blooms to listen Tree huggers, bah, I say enjoying the mushrooms, the bees, the butterflies, The moths, the wasps, the snakes and the faeries Because it is good practice to fit in Not because it has anything to do with the inner child me who is dancing daily in the forest hugging my delighted oaks.
