The Virus Is Us
A fiesty Zen priest recently told me, "Earth's most toxic virus is humanity". Riding on this muddy blue ball so lush could we only be a bit of carbon slush? A tiny blink, a galactic tale untold while on a grand scale not really that old. So why, oh why is there all this fuss? One must say, 'cause the virus is us! There're nations' records to abhor, pestilence seems too much to endure. Wars started by ego, all should deplore. Wars about divinity, hard to ignore. Wars of ethnicity, need I say more? We've seen this story for ages before. So why, oh why listen to Malthus? One must say, 'cause the virus is us! We claim intellect dwells only in us, nature covets secrets yet to discuss. Predator strains from our primal soup, failing incompetence, how low we stoop. Live through virus pandemic reality, then one asks, what sorts of fools are we? So why, oh why are we stumbling thus? One must say, 'cause the virus is us! As a carbon-based life form, we dominate this sphere. As earth's cosmic life goes on, we may no longer be here.
