Two Trees Away
One of the great joys of Spring Is to peruse around the yard And see what nature has unfolded The colors that have magically returned For example, in a Japanese maple tree With maroon leaves just bursting out A lovely female cardinal was perched Her grey physique, absolutely stunning Against the maroon foliage and sun Two trees away in an ornamental cherry Sat a male cardinal his royal red plumage Set off brilliantly by the small green leaves In between the two, two dogwood trees With blooms of white, just a hint of yellow Now make no mistake, the birds had Chosen their perches wisely The maroon of the maple would clash Mightily with the male and the female Would have been lost in a sea of green leaves Though, I couldn’t help but sigh and Wonder why they didn’t choose the dogwood They both would look magnificent in The dogwoods blooms of white Ah, isn’t that just the way For both men and women Choosing to perch in the trees Which make us feel the best Yet always remaining, two trees away When hanging in the dogwood trees Would be so much more romantic
