My Place ::After Maureen Davies::
Where I come from What a democratic place to live A place where our leaders are elected but in actuality they are really selected where the government by the people is not with and for the people That's how democratic we are Where I come from what a heavenly place to be A place where the pastors and leaders speak not the truth but words that soothes the legislatives and executives who have sealed their lips with tips Where the churches are losing their values as custodians of morality whereas the clubs bars,streets and ghettos are the new determinants of morality That's where I come from Where I come from Oh What a safe place to live A place where our securities are the chief sources of our insecurities Where our cars has to be locked and windshields winded up to prevent zokos from jerking our phones or bags That's how safe a place I come from Where I come from what a homely place to be A place Where mama is not papa's wife but "my daughter' or son's ma" and papa is not mama's husband but "my daughter' or son's pa" leaving me with little or no family values That's how homely a place I come from Where I come from Ooh what a caring place it is A place where we are so scared Because tears has become our bread owing to lack of care That's where I come from Where I come from What an incorrupt place it is A place where selection to offices Are done based on a "who you know and who knows you" relation making qualifications nothing but decorations That's how incorrupt we are Where I come from What a desirous place it is It isn't our road if there are no potholes and they aren't our friends or siblings if they are not smoking, or stealing, or standing in the streets all smelling, while some are selling on empty stomach to gain almost nothing just for something to eat for the day That's how desirous a place I come from Where I come from Yes there are also people People who have dreamt dreams of transformation even though they are persecuted for their reformations. People who still see the possibility of a better tomorrow when there are more indications of a bitter tomorrow. People still helping in the nation's building processes When there are no signs of achieving all the successes People so patriotic even though they are being pulled by the unpatriotic majority and if you are from where I come from if where I come from is your place too, if were I come from is a home to you too, then i rely on you to make our place good too
