Paws On the Block
Cats on my veranda Where do they come from Persian, Manx and Siamese Marmalade and Tom Out of hedges, under cars Across the yard they run Hungry felines - some in heat Up to greet the sun Hear the opening of the door Chow time is at hand What's for breakfast they meow Yummy dry or canned Scrambling for a morning meal Heads around the bowl Hissing, snarling, tails lash Slow ones take a roll Blackie, Morris, Mrs. Grey Tokey, Mr. Mew Sammy, Suzie, Butterscotch Lucky, Baby Lou Mother cat and Buttons, Nikki, Louise and Ben When we started feeding them There were barely ten Kittens born here in the spring Have sprung a whole new breed With the coming of next winter Many mouths to feed We love our tiny faces who gaze up at the door But goodness gracious - jeepers! Let's hope there are no more!
