Love That Never Was
My "heart" was wrapped up in him, In his "beautiful" mystery. I never quite knew his thoughts, And I think he liked it that way. There was always something hiding Behind those "green" eyes, Something I desperately wanted to uncover. His love was all play, and I fell for the game. He’d play with my "hair", Letting the long strands flow through his fingers. Each like a "thread" of gold, he’d say... He always knew what to say. His eyes were sparks behind "dark" eyelashes, And I always wanted them on me. I had a "fathomless" fascination with him, One I could never satisfy. That’s how it goes with your first love. My heart pounded at the sight of him, A thousand "birds", Flapping their wings in my chest. My heart still pounds like that sometimes, Leaving me "breathless" in the "silence" of the night, When I think about how much I once loved him. 3/5/20
