Looking Back At Earth
In my dreamy dream I am floating, defying gravity, like a buoyant cloud I drift up and around the moon; I sail and hover, suspended, just hanging, and then, I am wandering the surface of the moon; looking back at Earth, I shed a tear. Earth trembles and I can see it changing, I reach out and can hold it in my hands; and realize my hands and body have a moon glow, oh Earth, you are a precious treasure found; looking back at Earth, I am full of fear. This exquisite ball in my hands is so fragile, and it is being destroyed, it is falling to ruin; the devastation is catastrophic, brutal and vicious, war, famine, storms, death of humanity, creatures; looking back at Earth, I am so scared. Flooding somewhere, parched and thirsty somewhere else, uncontrollable fires, quakes and land slides, pollution; the fish are dying, birds dead, extinction everywhere, deadly virus diseases are spreading around the world; looking back at Earth, I am weeping, weeping. And although I rather like the moon glow, Earth is home, so, I must return and try to save it from destruction; I will join the battle against the end of our Earth, oh, the icebergs are melting and we cannot stop them; looking back at Earth, I shed a tear. _______________________________ February 26, 2020 Poetry/Verse/Looking Back at Earth Copyright Protected, ID 20-1230-572-03 All Rights Reserved, 2020, Constance La France Written for the contest, Picture Prompt sponsor, Brenda Chiri Third Place
