Saint Valentines Undying Lore
Poetry is lipped as ink drips on an ornamented card Violets in a stream of blue as the roses bud A red heart shape is enhaloed on our heads As a silent sweet serenade drifts our words Like opposite magnetic poles we are amorous And we sink ourselves in the Red Sea of romance A measure of satiety, is to treasure what we have A father was once blinded by hate, his girl sighted by love With a farewell valentine letter before her lover’s slaughter Saint Valentine restored sight to his jailer’s daughter Julia’s valentine saw and reveled in the sacrifice of purity One who is blind to love will never know true beauty It was in the lonely dark corners of a monastery In a month of purity, in the heart of February The secrets in their hearts, beamed in their eyes Love could not hide away like flowers under wraps What was the value of a relic thought, if it is unwritten Vows breaking vows they wedded when romance was forbidden The blood of the martyrs of romance does not cry out It sings in melodies that a throb cannot drown out Like joyous lovebirds chirping the day away on cloud nine Before they fly over the moon on the night of valentine Our eyes stray, our bodies sway as love leads the way Free to love for today is Saint Valentine’s day
