Controlling Parents
The understanding of respect can get twisted. I dont care if your the parent, your child's choices cant be restricted. Respect is not a given, it's something that is earned. I dont care if you're blood family or not, that respect can be turned. An adult child is no longer under your control. Like they were a long time ago. As parents, the acceptance of growing needs to be awarded. Sometimes if it's not, you can make your relationship distorted. Parents want the best for their children. But if you push too much they will be hidden. Respect the child and they will respect you. I wish parents would understand this all the way through. Just because your the parent, it doesnt mean your always right. Eventually the relationship you'll lose, because their sick of the fight. Your children's lives are there for you to teach and guide. Not for you to insist on what they need to decide. They will make their own decision and you cant stop them. Even if their lifestyle is something you dont condemn. You need to give your children a chance to live in the real world alone. You need to accept the fact that they are grown. You need to learn you cant make all their choices. You need to know your child is not voiceless. Let it be and let them be the parent to their own kids, and live their lives. And if something bad happens to arrive. Let them learn and not put them down. Because then when it comes to you they may no longer want you around.
