Ole Fussie and Them
he used one gallon of what he called batch liquor( rye mash) he soaked ground pecan, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks lavender, mint leaves, dried hot peppers,. he soaked it for almost three months and strained it. he mixed it with rum and brown sugar and molasses. he let it stand for up to nine more months. he used it in desserts, in his hot sauce, he mixed it with vinegar and raspberries, and made a lite dressing for salads. some body told me not to trust that recipe. he had heard that he used ground tobacco to flavor the first batch. We don't know how true that was, but somebody said it was true and we couldn't get an answer to satisfy that rumor. but that food was good, borderline great. he made bbq sauce with that batch of rye water, and we loved it. of course some "ole fruggy gonna come along with some story to taint our memories and divide our loyalty upon his thought, but that stuff made cookies a treat, and made cakes taste like something from heaven. the icing he made one time was so good we asked the neighbor's over to taste the contents of the bowl."Man!" thats some good eating! I tell you them "ole fussies" gonna find something to get him on, and we know what he was doing was right for us, and done with our welfare in mind, but them "ole fussies" gonna drag us through the dirt just to have a devish say!
