When I Came Home
When I came home I understood that nothing could be the same I’d never perceive the world like you after the horrors--- that I'd seen I can hear the roaring thunder bombs--- exploding on the deck phoenix sparrow sidewinder rockets scaring more--- than just the ship the sound of friendly fire burping out random death aTomcats Gatling gun--- spews bullets across the deck acidic smoke from burning bodies the smell--- of human flesh blown out chest severed limbs trialed through--- entangled organs and decapitated bodies who's eyes no longer see for the lingering dead neither friend or foe I vomit out--- sanity for night gives birth to mental demons my days--- are haunted memories they shipped me home but I’m just a token not the man I used to be The photo which accompanies this poem is a copy of a military photo taken the night of the accident..
