Twas the Night Before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house floor the mice do play. The cat is wise and starts to chase, this is war. The mice very nimble and fast invade the cabinets and drawers. Into the stockings that hung on the fireplace, set their teeth there. Burrowing holes through the stockings all you could see were their long tails. Through the bottom they wiggle their nose on those cute little faces. The cat chases-them-all- up through the enclose chimney as St. Nicholas shimmed down. There was a loud howled OW! In agony as mice snapped at St. Nicholas backside as he scowled. Children snug in their beds heard a cry of pain from down stairs. They sprang from their beds and ran to see strewn chairs, teddy bears and St. Nicholas flat on his back as mice made a dash into his bag of toys. The cat quick on his feet chase the mice making dreadful noise; up the Christmas tree crashing it down, breaking ornaments, and toys. Weaving through furniture, knocking over lamps, and around St. Nicholas trampled cookies and milk. The noise settles down and the children help St. Nicholas, bandage his injured backside. When out on the lawn there arouse such a clatter, the reindeer guide was yelling, hurry St. Nicholas were running late, get on and ride. St. Nicholas, he did whistle, and as loud as he could, and call them by name while side by side they stood; "Now, DASHER! Now, DANCER! Now, PRANCER, and VIXEN! On, COMET! On CUPID! On, DONNER and BLITZEN! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" St. Nicholas did pout and squall. Sure, would love some Ole buttermilk, I didn't get my cookies and milk." 12/4/2019 Children Story
