Out the Window
Out the Window Summer sun Blaze flames of fury Amongst smoke and ashes On barbecue pits Around the corner On dog days The brightest star Cling closest to our hearts And drip sweat down our backs Our pores let out steam Sticking to our skin And the fibers on our garments The fan becomes our open window And the wind Trapping our paper and change Fall leaves Trail behind Trembling in the wind And scatter in the breeze Crystal winter snow Glow against the glare of light hidden in the sky Knock at our windows And peck on our cold, red noses Stuffed or runny with mucus Sticking out from under our coat hats And throats sore and itchy with phlegm Chapped lips smeared with balm Cold chills quiver bare branches in the fog Twigs coated in cold powdered flakes freeze and dissolve Stare blindly out the window Nightfall fade into the clouds Come spring, We hold on to the things that were once broken Or appeared so, Lost and out of focus Dull and empty Deep down in the pit Now resurrected buds in bloom With potent fume and vibrant hues Soil moist with rain Umbrellas broken Dreams revived and tokened Marckincia Jean Free verse 11/19/19
