Little Man's Eyes
I see it, little one ... In the magic of your eyes - 'Tis the world, blooming wondrous! Bright, dazzling dreams of a midday meadow, A softened sweep of butterfly wings, azure-bound, The warm, wobbly mud of a May puddle, And a kiss, stolen from your cheek By a sweet smile in pinafore and pigtails. Oh, how your absinthe gaze dances, Splattered with tendrils of shimmering gold ... A million mercurial meanderings, borne, Alighting like fireflies on the weeds of your thoughts, And tickled by the breezes of possibility - "What if?" they whisper ... Answers blossom in your mind like rare orchids, All that is imagined, and all that beyond! Little man, so dear ... Such fearsome, fine enchantments await - You are a book of perplexity and blank pages That time and love and learning wait to write upon ... A grand tome of course and experience - The splendid circus and surreptitious story, Life, That twirls and prances in your eyes, And whose magnificent, mysterious, marvelous conclusion ... I will leave ... to you. ~ 3rd Place ~ in the "2 To 12" Poetry Contest, Beth Evans, Judge & Sponsor. ~ For my Grand-nephew, Killian ... all my hopes, little man. ~
