Broken Words
His presence was like the screeching From someone scraping a fingernail Down a blackboard But I would miss him despite it all He wasn’t the one for me really He was tempted by drink And women and anything that Wasn’t a reality in his life His life is filled with lost moments And lost causes because he Doesn’t give in to the need to be Responsible and caring He said he loved me with his heart But it was a love for what it brought When I gave to him all that I had And didn’t take anything back He was afraid to really open up No one knew what he was Because he only showed his mask Of joy and kindness and no grief Grief was a part of his deepest heart It wound around his soul creating A wound that wouldn’t heal or scar Because it was continually reopened He was a liar with all that he said No promises whispered that were fulfilled He didn’t want anyone to see the real man The one who had problems deeper than sin And, sometimes, some ways, I miss him Even though I never once believed in him I could not because he was a broken word That refused to be spoken or written down
