Fire Earth Water Air
All are born in blessed Fire as was the world, Two wishes mesh and the ballet dancer is hurled. Thrown into an unknowable bleakness of cold, Burnt we recoil as we let it all unfold. Most spend their time chasing warmth and glorious light, Only to find the day’s heat and the fear of night. Left on a desolate Earth that turns forever, There is no time to learn how to Love each other, We bargain with our wretched lives and hope to feed, As we plough the futile fields with an endless need, Taste the luscious fruits of this valiant soil, That are made from hoards of dead hearts lost in toil. Down to the Water the brave clamber on the sand, Hoping to find joy denied to them on the land, Splash, float and bathe in the cold water’s majesty, Be weary the seas offer you a travesty, With heads and shoulders bent they all return at dark, Ever abandoned like a once seafaring bargue. Take deep breathes of the invisible Air around, Listen and marvel at the miracle of sound, Talk and sing as if there were others who might hear, For soon you will return to the safe cave in fear, Tempest, cyclone and strong hurricane winds will rise, Smothering all the mournful and sorrowful cries.
