The Cat Who Stole Xmas
Where’s the tinsel that made the tree look cold have not seen the popcorn that was hung so old those huge colorful bulbs always got into a snag I did the tree back then and I just had to brag. It was an adventure to go find a evergreen in the forest the fresh scent would fill the house and underneath would be Morris he loved to bat the decorations and take some down whenever I heard something break I knew he was around. the red velvet apron dressed up the tree even more Christmas morn there were presents galore but who should appear amongst the branches to see it was Morris who wanted to climb the tree. Morris what you doing in there? he replied “ a mouse goes up the clock somewhere” “I felt he would also climb up this tree” “when he gets to the top there’ll be me”. No you can’t wait in the tree for a mouse No creature will be stirring in this house You need to get down before Santa comes around he won’t leave you gifts only just a frown. “But I will be napping and won’t make a peep” how will you see a mouse in your sleep “I’ll set a trap before my nap “he’ll be caught up in the strap” Morris.. I will not have you in my tree tonight setting a trap is not very bright this may disturb the decorations that I placed all will fall from the mouse you had chased. “what if I just sit by the fire with eyes shut ’? “then I won’t rattle the chestnuts” “when I see the mouse caught I will pull the strap” then go back to my catnap” okay that sounds fair enough and no harm done just don’t be noisy when he’s on the run “ I won’t disturb those sleeping in the house” “don’t worry I’ll be quiet as a mouse” The night was quiet all thru the house Morris was waiting to catch that louse, soot was falling down the chimney flue what should appear was a big black shoe. Ol’ Nick arrived just before one that was the beginning of the Xmas eve fun he unloaded his sack in front of the tree didn’t noticed the trap for the mouse’s spree. As he was turning to get back up the stack all hell broke loose from the sound of a crack the mouse got caught and shook to get loose but the battle was over being caught in a noose. it scared Ol’Nick who fell against the wall hung on to the branches pulling tree and all there rose such a clatter it woke up the house Morris didn’t stir and not even the mouse. You’ve been on a wild rampage; just look what you’ve done the tree is demolished and Ol’ Nick is down on his bun I expect an explanation if you please Morris stared with ears perked up “ Hmmm. must of been the cheese” ,,,,,,, and to all a good night…Meow
