The Beauty of Hell
An awful place beyond our nightmare's worst A dwelling for all those the Lord hath cursed And none the bands of yoke asunder burst It's purpose seem most crooked and perverse For there is no one righteous nor benign The wicked have their portion fair assigned For though the reason I could not divine I know there is a grand and just design Eternal flames dark, icy hearts shall thaw And in great pain, their lying tongues will gnaw Their conscience seared bear witness with such awe The holy Sovereign, perfect without flaw Like waters to a thirsty hart the news, Of what he's done deep in my heart I mused Beloved seed of woman was refused Who for my sin, the Lord was pleased to bruise With love He spoke the truth that hell is real For being tempted, he like we did feel Though guiltless, all our sins in him conceal In dying, our iniquities did heal And all of this, God planned before we fell For without evil, there would be no hell Yet in his wisdom did much more excel To gladly suffer fools, serves justice well I once tried to imagine in my mind That while in hell with fairest demons dined And decked with purple linen most refined But out of Zion, perfect beauty shined I'd rather be in hell without a sin Than be in heaven void of Christ within
