My feet were mammoth, I tried to collect them. Old Gus’s ears perked up. He was gone. Raccoon or opossum maybe. A tribute to my mom I thought, Remembering her smile, her laugh, her hug. I was seven when flu took her. Came home from school to find out. Dad grieving so hard. Bad time. He had lost a wife. I had lost my sun. Dad peeked in. How’s it going, son? He gave me a nod. Anything I can do? He was not demonstrative.
