The Whirlwind
The Whirlwind I longed so for her, and Today she flew in like an angel landing; Backpack, suitcase, slurpee in hand, New hair color and figure. Down went the air conditioner; Out came pillows and blankets, Water bottle full of Ozarka, Smart phone, and all of those things. “Can I have the car keys, I’ve got to go to the store. I’m going with Liz tomorrow, Turn off the kitchen radio, please, it bores.” Oh, yes, Mom, I’m going back Monday, How are you feeling, by the way, Now you drink plenty of water, And rest, won’t you, all of today. (Yes, Monday, my head between symbols, I’ll turn up the a/c and radio, I’ll be able to hear the TV again, And not interrupt the smart phone.) But then, the house will be silent, And waiting for a new phone call begins, “Mom, I’m coming home for a few days,” And my whirlwind of joy will fly in.
