Along a Colorado Trail
I saddle my faithful horse, King, for another day on the trail. My dog, Duke, is anxious to go, I can tell by the wag of his tail! The soothing sound of creaking leather is music to me, As we seek another day of adventure, so many wonders to see! We ascend higher on majestic Pikes Peak as we saunter along, Enjoying the hymn of babbling brooks and accompanying birdsong. Looking to the plains below I see buffalo at graze on the prairie; Perched on a towering tor, a magnificent eagle surveys all from its aerie! Off to my right a little ways, mountain sheep pose on a crag, And suddenly, trotting across the trail is a spectacular stag! Peering shyly from yon copse is a doe and her beautiful fawn. I savor the sight of these gorgeous critters awhile, then move on. Near a remote mountain tarn a herd of pronghorn antelope gambol, And along a rushing stream a herd of sleek elk browse and amble. Bushy tailed marmot scurry about gathering fare for their survival, To stash in their burrows in anticipation of winter's arrival! A little ways down the trail I spy a bear and her adorable cub. Thankfully, King is not spooked and they vanish in the scrub! Off in the distance I espy a mountain lion lounging in a tree, But Duke and I keep a wary eye on him and agree to let him be! King, Duke and I amble down the trail in the shadow of Pikes Peak, Enjoying another day of nature's marvels of which we shall always seek! Another day on the trail savoring mountain air and pristine sky, Cherishing the works of The Creator forever etched in my mind's eye!
