When a Loved One Dies
When a love one dies in the summer the sun keeps smiling. The birds sing doo doo doo doo doo doo’s, without stopping. Moist droplets of dew glitter up the flowers in the morning. Neighbors’ voices filter into the window, and they are living. Their lives have continued as if your heart has not died. When a loved one dies in the spring you stop skipping, you stop dancing. You glare at the new fresh green plants that used to delight you. You are angry that they are happily growing, when you are so sad and alone. You run away from your dirt therapy and your gardens, delighting in nothing. Resentful that everything is new and fresh, and your loved one is not here to see it. When a loved one dies in the fall you cry over apple pie. That was their favorite. You sob on Halloween, knowing they will never dress up in a silly costume again. You turn your lights off, and hide in the dark, hoping no one presses your doorbell. You are resentful and sad, and you do not want to see anyone’s costume or smiles. Sad for you, for Trick-or-Treating used to be a highlight, before you died too. When a loved one dies in the winter, the snow still falls and glistens. You hear your favorite yule tide songs, and you collapse into deep sobs, Because they remind you of the good times, the together times. the times you had together. When you could smile and know what your loved one was thinking, and no one else could. No one comes to visit you. It is a great time to glean vast amounts of depression. No matter when your loved one dies, You are amazed that life has gone on for them, because it has not for you. It will never be the same. Ever.
