Snowflake Down
East of Omaha, winds blow far Snowflakes coming down, scattered all around One by one, more to come Covering the ground, moving inbound Some would repel, most would excel Some drop straight, others swerved A few disappeared, others adhered I lost sight, those that curved, Held out my hand, hopping one would land A flake I felt, promptly it did melt I stared straight ahead, at one that led It went astray Accumulating hour by hour into the next day Pillars and platforms created to set the stage, Astounding how snowflakes can draw a scene Shapes become magnified, whatever the gauge. Looking out my snowbound window Visibility is shortened and limbs are down. I’m in for the long haul with nothing to do I fret and fumed, my face does frown Hour by hour I wait out the storm Passing of time creeps by slow Not much to see, but I can hear Howling winds that blow. That one little snowflake buried in deep By itself alone it would not impede But because they fell one by one This changed my nature indeed
