A small flicker of flame, the only light. The smoke fills the air, engulfing me. The stench of carcinogenic chemicals, Reeking of a prolonged death. Contemplation of every moment, That leads up to this point. A test on the horizon, A lesson learned from weeks past. I sit on the edge of my seat, Leaning closer to the depths below. Admitting and refusing defeat, Which takes charge, I don’t really know. Ignored messages arriving in intervals, Better for you, but worse for me. I ask myself what does the future bring? I ask myself how long I must suffer? I ask myself how long until there is another? But the shadows don’t speak anymore, The light banishing all deteriorating ill will. The light doesn’t bring clarity, The light sporadically feeds hope. But even in the light, the suffering abides. Sleep isn’t a necessity, but a chore. Dreaming has turned into a grim affair. I don’t want to suffer anymore, So I’ve laid myself out totally bare. I will wait for you, endlessly. Though not advised, it’s what I’ve to do. I’m progressing through a scarred mind, Searching and hoping for a reconciliation. One day I might find the answer, But until then I have to keep working.
