My Dog Scrap
My dog is named Scrap He drank beer on tap Slurped, burped, fell over and napped No fault of my own but I took the rap. The bar tab was forty bucks plus a tip Appetizing jerky tips, and some peach liquors to sip I had no money, my pocket had a rip For a way out, I tried to make the slip. Got caught in the act, was taken to court Judge remarked ‘you’ll pay for the tort’, Bail was set, but I had no support I asked for leniency as a last resort. The judge replied ‘you let your dog sit at the bar’ “Don’t’ you think that’s a little bizarre?” “He downed a Chianti pint and a dish of caviar” “Now you want me to let you go, I’m sorry, no cigar!” I spent the long night in the cold and dreary cell, Not able to have my dog with me, this was hell I imagined him to be lapping up a bottle of Zinfandel I pity him to feel that this is a farewell. The charges were being dropped The bar tender bonded with my dog that flopped In lieu of fees, Scrap was hired as a swap He greeted patrons with a lick when they stopped. He became a welcoming figure by the mat They would shake his paw and give him a pat He howled when someone has drank too much He’s been there, done that as such.
