The Monster Within
The chill of the morning air startles the soul. A disastrous night brought hot flashes and sweat. What is the dream and what is reality? A mind torn into two spirits, into two people. A story not unlike Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The free spirited, joyous boy of youth, Hidden away from the fleeting world of adulthood. A monster was born, protecting himself against all odds. Once the wall was accessible to love and happiness, But no longer does he accept either. He shy’s away from everyone and everything. Trapped in an eternity, he became alone. Alone, the demons rise, the devils creep. Alone, he wallows in despair. But shouldn’t he be happy, this is what his actions showed. The boy hidden away, he fights. Oh God, he fights for survival. Amongst fear of death and suicide. The boy lives, he surfaces every now and then when the monster rests. But the monster only rests for a few days. Irritable he rises, he consumes the boy again. Love that was there has disappeared and he’s left bitter and raging. He knows not what he does, only the outcome. He’s left pained and broken. The boy tries to reason with him, he tries to let the light in. The boy is futile. The monster grows into someone he doesn’t know. Something he never wanted to be. But it’s too late. The boy, finally breaks down, it’s time to control the beast. The boy runs, finding a path home. But home is nowhere the boy recalls. The boy sees an angel, her curly hair and her loving smile. The boy runs toward her, changing to and from the monster. As he changes she becomes distressed and backs away. Knowing that with the monster around, he will never embrace her. He fights so hard, he knows what he has to do. It is time for the monster to die.
