The King of the Crooked Crown
The animals of the forest decided that they should have a leader to guide them. They said anyone that wanted to, should get up and expound. The fox, eager to influence the others with his clever concepts, made the suggestion that he should be the boss. The magpies response was contentious, "How could we trust you?" "Every year you steal more and more of our eggs, and that's not right!" they said. "I think I would make a strong leader, and fair," said the lion. "But you have been a self-imposed dictator for far too long!" said the owl. "What about me?" the horned one said. "My wisdom is legendary!" Then all the animals started talking at once, when a shadow filled the doorway, and a man came forward. A great gasp of surprise arose in the Hall of the Hallowed Tree. The Naked Ape of the Divine Toadstool said, "quiet and hear me now!" "I would be the best choice as your leader!" he stated assuredly. "Why you!?" said the owl. "We don't know who you are, not even your name!" "I am the human being known as the King of the Crooked Crown" he said. "For I am the perfect imperfection to lead this imperfect union!" "With the natural resources of the forest, we can build an empire!" he said convincingly. The human needed to say no more, for they all agreed unanimously, that he should lead them! When they had all gone, the owl was left alone in the Great Hall. He sat upon his perch thinking to himself. "Ah but what of Mother Nature?" "It's not nice to fool with Her, hmm." The light grew with the early dawn, as the wise one's big eyes, slowly closed. date-2/20/19
