Murder On a Hilltop
Murder on a Hilltop! In a far off place my Captain died; Upon a distant hill. He was murdered, beaten like a dog, They exhibited their kill. Blood ran on the whipping post. And the scoffers mocked with glee. The Devil danced and his legions laughed, When My Captain Died for Me. In a far off place my Captain died, In a strange unfriendly land. His flesh was torn, and His sad face. Lost all semblance of a man. They hung Him like a slaughtered pig; Upon that humble tree! Water and blood flowed from His side; When My Captain Died for Me. In the grave they laid my Captain, But at last He defeated them. He conquered death and Hell itself, And the grave could not hold Him. He burst death's chains asunder, And stepped forth in all his might. To rule at last in Heaven above; And in my heart tonight.
