Stepping Into the Woods
STEPPING INTO THE WOODS Submerged in the sea of the maddening crowd I see a verdant island emerge in lonesome me, displacing the sound stratum of cacophony loud, unattached from the anchored mind I make me free. In the precinct of pristine sprawling thicket I wander, as the rising sun bursts with colors on calm canopy golden beams flush the leaves in spectral splendor, in the tranquil depth of silence I merge with serenity. In the embracing breeze the enchanted boughs quiver, make mystique motif with lattice of light and shadow, to me the tapestry of ecstasy the foliage offers forever. How to hold it within me or make it mine I won’t know. From the cool cradle of copse I’ve a long way to go with the forlorn life across the amber landscape fallow. Grandeur of emerald sheen in my mind I’d strive to stow, create for my pale heart an expanse of jade meadow. When I'd seek rest in the fading hours of twilight glow I’d step into the waiting woods, melt me in its shadow. Written : January 9, 2019.
