Balanced
you are the small town boy to my raging city girl, the quiet chirping of the crickets to the everlasting hum of the train right outside my window. you remind me of running in the grass at night, catching fireflies, of coming home with grass-stained knees, of something i haven’t felt in a long time. being around you quiets me, i think. instead of buzzing and slamming down shot glasses in dingy city bars, i am sitting in basements playing card games with the sweet taste of green apple vodka on my tongue and the taste of you. it’s like a balancing act, whenever i’m with you. i forget my roots, i forget the dirty city that i leave behind, and all i become is the person i am with you, soft and subdued. dear small town boy, thank you. i will see you soon. sincerely, your raging city girl.
