Shackled - Edited For the I of the Storm
SHACKLED (edited for The I Of The Storm) Backing my hips against these painted bricks While eager young men dance with eager young chicks They act like Adonis, which isn’t that honest They’re trying their best ‘pulling’ tricks And when I see Sally, I just dilly dally I secretly couldn’t be keener Then she turned around, I stared at the ground As though I had not even seen her The thing is I think, she gave me a wink Last week as she sauntered on by But I looked away because maybe that day She thought I was some other guy So now my mate, Les, has gone off with Bess The girl in the skimpy red dress It’s time to go home, again all alone And act like I couldn’t care less. A crippling ailment, a life in curtailment Its living your life on your knees No way to stand out when riddled with doubt Yet no-one calls ‘Shy’ a disease 25 November 2018 (edited from a recent original)
