Goodbye
Black angels rose today, behind the dark sun that birthed them. They bore me news of the grave, one more friend too early sent. My heart and the sky all 'round wept today, as if together feeling the same loss. In the clouds of my breath I saw his smile, the one that used to calm me down so easily. In my music I heard his laugh today, the quick one that could chase all hurt away. Only this time I couldn't just let it go, just put it down and grab a drink with him. I felt more stings than just the cold today, calling to tell some who knew him. I spoke to his wife of him and of them, and offered what faint solace I had to give. Of all the things I thought might happen today, losing him was not among them. Juan is strongly loved and sorely missed, and I desperately wish - I hadn't had to say goodbye today.
