When I Ponder My Death
WHOM BESIDE ME WILL STAND? I often wonder whom beside me will stand when I no longer have the strength to command. The world will change in the years that remain. No one at the end will know my name. Though I have loved the world, it has not loved me. It has thrown me into many a reckless sea. Yet I will not blame it when I go to my grave. When Death calls me, I want to be brave. Sometimes at night when I turn out the light I imagine that day, I imagine that night when Death will creep upon the stair and carry me away unaware. I want to be what God created me to be and never lose sight of God's vision for me. Though I die all alone without an earthly friend, the universe will be with me in the end. Now thoughts dance like children around my head. On that day I'll leave them without any dread. At the time of my death though I cannot stand, though I cannot see to that distant land, though I cannot pray or understand, I know God Himself will hold my hand. Janet Marie Bingham
