Once Upon a Lightning Strike
Once upon a lightning strike Children frightened from the storm Found an ancient jar intact but empty On the forest floor before a cave A rare, rose colored slice of history Hidden by thick leaves about the entrance With translucent see-through features A perfect pure light receptacle reflector Holes punched in the thin tin lid on top Driven there by nail and hammer Somewhere in the distant history Some time before they showed up Lucky to find the cave before the storm Children get lost while out exploring A master plan came up inside their minds To fill the jar with lightning bugs To give them purpose while being caught Breathing is important Insects like the simple things in life Creature comforts and survival They like air and glowing in the dark Once captured they find a home inside a jar We wish that they were smarter but they are not Lid screwed tight for their protection With holes for breathing pleasure What could make them happier Being employed by little children In dark caves is what it is all about Kids know exactly what they really want And what is best for insects in a cave is trust An old jar made as a lamp with bugs Not exactly lightning in a bottle But thanks to glowing insects and the kids A close facsimile Compliments of nature inside out Kids inside a cave, bugs inside a jar Once upon a lightning strike outside Who could ask for anything more
