Most of the Time
Grandpa was born in 1929 He had a great life he’d often say with a sigh Grandpa was also very fond of his “wine” Meaning anything that came from a grain or a vine He smoked strong cigars that he’d cut in half That I puffed once turned green and made him laugh Not much of a talker but he had some great lines And they always got better with another “glass of wine” “Grandpa, I feel a big one tuggin’ on the line! Settle son, settle or the fish’ll win each time Well I pulled too hard and soon it wasn't mine Son holdin’ on too tight loses most things most-the-time From workin’ in coal mines to fightin’ in a war He was still young when he was asked to give some more But what I remember most was Grandpa’s love and pride In this country that he loved and for which he’d nearly died “Grandpa, I feel a big one tuggin’ on the line! Settle son, settle or the fish’ll win each time Well I pulled too hard and soon it wasn't mine Son holdin’ on too tight loses most things most-the-time Yeh, Grandpa helped me become the man I am. With sayin’s like “Use God’s grace to be the best you can” “Grandpa, I feel a big one tuggin’ on the line! Settle son, settle or the fish’ll win each time Well I pulled too hard and soon it wasn't mine Son holdin’ on too tight loses most things most-the-time “Grandpa, I feel a big one tuggin’ on the line! Settle son, settle or the fish’ll win each time Well I pulled too hard and soon it wasn't mine Son holdin’ on too tight loses most things most-the-time Yeh, I find if you hold on too tight You’ll lose most things most-the-time
