Just Waiting For Someone
There’s a pile of red bricks in the corner, The raised flower bed’s half done. There’s sand and cement for the remainder... Just waiting for someone. Another year before planting the rose bush, Clearing those nettles won’t be fun. Then there’s dirt and rubble and bits for the skip... Just waiting for someone. The cherry tree needs pruning, Next-door says it keeps out the sun. Then there’s the hole in the fence that the dog gets through... Just waiting for someone. The rotovator’s at the ready, Those paving slabs weighed a ton, All lined up in orderly fashion, Just waiting for some one... A bonfire’s been built down the bottom, Guy Fawkes night it would have been fun. Now it seems to blend in with everything else... Just waiting for someone. I gaze out of my kitchen window, Wistfully dreaming of my garden all done. Oh well, better get on with the dinner While I’m-just waiting for someone....... I never did get my garden finished,we had to move into a flat.Still he does look after the window boxes,so mustn’t grumble.
