Just To Sit Outside
Just to Sit Outside I never was a gardener, But I’d love to dig a hole, To hold a spade and feel black dirt, But alas, I have grown old. To sit outside under the stars, Watch the planes fly overhead; To pray for happy passengers, That they be safe, meet their goals before they’re dead. To sit outside under wispy clouds To think nor fear fearful bites; To say hello to a nocturnal cat, Peruse the creatures of the night. To sit outside in the afternoon, As neighbors used to do, But children don’t visit porch sitters now; They have too much to do. To sit outside in the cool twilight, And picture life in the sleepy homes, And hope no one who lives in them Will ever be alone. I would sit outside alone or not, Though today it’s 100 degrees. And I am in that time of life. Inbound with old age disease. If you should read this poem of mine Take heed in your days of frantic, To build in your soul sweet memories for When you sit outside under the stars….alone.
