Sophie Dog's Powerful Stuffed Friend
Our sweet Sophie dog has a stuffed duck that we have to tolerate We put up with it more than most fairly sane dog-less people might. It has a broken neck, its eyes bulging, and its beak is agape. It smells raunchy, it is dirty, and its stuffing is not tight or right. We have been walking over this best friend more often of late. Sophie dog leaves it in doorways, and hallways, slightly in sight. We call it her baby, and she thinks it is the greatest of great. We trip on it now and then, sometimes screaming or jumping in fright. We have tried to replace it with a newer version three times of late. She will not have any other, for this one she will scream for, and fight. It is firmly in her teeth, when she goes out in the morning, to face the day’s fate. She and I sleep with it on the bed, staring at us both, with eyes of knowing might.
