My Darling Daughter
My darling daughter, where do I begin? I missed so much of your growing up, Though that, I know is not my sin, Yet, you have me at arm's length. I have never ever claimed to be a perfect mother. Yet, I am sometimes treated as I do not matter, That for a mom, you would rather have any other Person, other than who you ended up with. No matter the pain you put me through, Know that I am still here, standing ready, Always ready, willing, and able to be here for you. You one day will see what you mean to me. Words will never be able to convey How proud I am of you though, How seeing you that very day Standing upon Hilton Field. You are now an Army Soldier. When you came through that smoke I could not keep my composure. This mama was a weeping mess. I know this is your life’s calling. You have wanted to serve others Ever since you began crawling. You finally found your place. Yet, I know you are now grown, I sometimes see my baby girl. The one who never let out a groan When she was in severe pain. You will never know my fears Nor what my mind can see When I see you in your gear. It is just the mom side of me. To know you may have to sacrifice One day your very own life And that is one price You are willing to pay. You will always be my little girl Your siblings and you are all grown Yet you all will always be my world. Know I see you and am so proud. Strap on those Army boots And take on this world Show them your attributes Prove you are not broken. Shout out your battle cry Never be unspoken nor Let this world lie Unexplored to you. When I draw my last breath I will not stop being your mom For even in death That bond can never be torn.
